Royal family Order
Elizabeth Meek MBE was commissioned by His Majesty The King to paint His portrait for the Family Order to be worn by Her Majesty The Queen on state occasions. It was worn for the first time at the State Banquet held at Buckingham Palace in honour of the visit by Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan on 25th June 2024.
The tradition of Family Orders goes back over 200 years, and each new Monarch chooses a portrait artist at the beginning of their reign.
The portrait worn by Her Majesty The Queen is surrounded by a border of diamonds, designed by the Crown Jeweller, Mark Appleby. The ribbon was arranged by Royal Milliner Philip Treacy.
The portrait was based on a photograph taken in 2023 by Hugo Burnand. Painted in oil on polymin, the miniature measures 4x3 cms.
